Done!

This took awhile, but it was a good experience, I got to use a couple new things that I learned about at my classes at Machine Quilters Showcase 2 weeks ago.  These borders are definitely the best job of feathers that I have done so far.  I also put feathers into each of the "spiderweb" blocks.  I am seeing Leisl tonight so I can take it with me, I hope she likes it as much as I do!!!

Your quilt is beautiful. I like fabric choices. Each circle looks like a brightly colored jewel. And your feathers are beautiful!

What did you learn that made your feathers better? I think your quilting is awesome, Pam.

Well, better feathers are mostly the result of more practice. In addition to that, I made a better curved stem by using a template to give me an even undulating line, centered in the border lengthwise and widthwise. I marked it with little dots from a blue washout pen prior to stitching. I had to calculate the spacing so there were an uneven number of "humps" so each end would deflect the same way. And I put a masking tape 45 degree marker in the corner so the feathers would lay up against that and hopefully match the feathers from the neighboring border that butt up against the miter. Also, concentrating on consistent width of each feather section. And this is the first time I turned the quilt on the frame, so each border could be stitched in one stretch, rather than stitch, roll, stitch, roll, etc. Piece o' cake!
